Diploma in Aerospace Engineering

Diploma in Aerospace Engineering is a 40 credit course leading to the qualification of:

Diploma in Aerospace Engineering (EduQual Level 4)

The course is delivered as an online engineering course, consisting of two 20 credit units. The first unit is a recommended unit which is designed to deliver some fundamental learning required to progress onto the second, specific core unit.

- Unit 1: Flight Mechanics (recommended*) – in this unit begins by introducing you to the nomenclature used for aircraft and then progresses to explore the physics of aircraft flight both from a quantitative and qualitative perspective. You will gain an appreciation of the atmosphere and straight and level flight followed by evaluating aircraft performance parameters during landing and take-off and different manoeuvres. Finally, you will begin to understand the principles of aircraft stability and control.
- Unit 2: Aerospace Structures (core) – this unit will see you apply engineering principles to the design, development and analysis of aerospace structures and systems. You will learn how to describe the functions of aerospace structures and to quantify the effects of static and dynamic loads in aerospace structures. Finally, you will explore some fundamental principles relating to aircraft machines and power transmission systems.

* The recommended unit can be replaced by a different unit of your choice depending on your personal preference, or previous learning experience.
